FINROSFORUM  //  The Finnish-Russian Civic Forum strives to promote cooperation between the peoples of Finland and Russia by supporting civic initiatives for democracy, human rights, and freedom of speech.

The Finnish-Russian Civic Forum (FINROSFORUM) was established in January 2007 by a group of people concerned about the development of human rights and the erosion of democracy in Russia. Our organisation supports civic initiatives for democracy, human rights, and freedom of speech.

FINROSFORUM has held annual conferences and other public events with the participation of numerous human rights defenders and opposition activists from Russia as well as many civil society actors from outside Russia. The fourth annual conference, FINROSFORUM 2010, was held on 21-22 July 2010 in Helsinki. (Read more.)

The Chair and Information Secretary of the Finnish-Russian Civic Forum is Kerkko Paananen, civic activist. The organisation's Vice-Chair is Elisabeth Nordgren, journalist and board member of Finnish PEN. The organisation's Secretary is Sampo Saari, interpreter and civic activist.

The other board members are Oksana Chelysheva, deputy director of the Russian-Chechen Friendship Society; Olga Ignatieva-Vanhanen, translator and English teacher; Frank Johansson, Executive Director of Amnesty International Finnish section; Mikael Storsjö, entrepreneur and free speech activist; and Jarkko Tontti, writer and chairman of Finnish PEN.

The founding members of FINROSFORUM are Rolf Büchi, Nils-Erik Friis, Anu Harju, Heidi Hautala, Frank Johansson, Pekka Koponen, Henrik Lax, Laura Lodenius, Anna-Stiina Lundqvist, Jukka Mallinen, Elisabeth Nordgren, Theresa Norrmén, Kerkko Paananen, Marja Pulkkinen, Elina Rahimova, Ville Ropponen, Iida Simes, Anni Sinnemäki, and Mikael Storsjö.
